Unlock confident communication skills with new myON feature
Oral fluency is the latest teacher-prompted activity added to myON’s Assignment Creator, providing a new dimension to myON’s support of literacy instruction. This new feature enables students to practice and improve their oral reading skills, helping them grow into more confident and effective communicators. At the same time, teachers can monitor student progress and identify areas for targeted support.

What is the difference between recording functionality, oral response, and oral fluency?
myON’s recording capability, previously called “Read Aloud,” gives students the ability to record themselves reading a book, while teachers can listen to these recordings. The recording feature supports both oral response and oral fluency activities in the Assignment Creator.
- Oral response involves students recording themselves in reply to a teacher’s prompt, similar to prompts used for writing activities but focusing on verbal rather than written responses.
- Oral fluency allows teachers to assign specific passages—providing their own or choosing one from 30 that are pre-written—for students to read and record (for one minute or less), so they can assess a student’s pronunciation, fluency, and expression.

The oral fluency feature also benefits second language learning, speech impediment therapy, and early readers (ages 3–6) who are learning vocabulary, numeracy, and phonics.
The addition of oral fluency as an activity in myON’s Assignment Creator enhances students’ reading abilities and strengthens their verbal expression, while helping teachers identify those students who need targeted support.
